Fact Sheet: Budgerigars (Wild Type or “Bush Budgies”)

No licence required.

*These notes primarily apply to the green native budgerigar. However they also apply to the larger and more aggressive forme found in the pet and show circles.

FEEDING

DRY SEED MIXTURE: millets, plain canary plus small amounts of hulled oats

FRESH WATER: for drinking.

REGULAR GREENS: such as finely chopped milk thistle, endive, dandelion, seeding grasses, etc.

CUTTLEFISH, SHELLGRIT, CHARCOAL.

HOUSING

AVIARIES*: minimum height 60cm; 7200 sq.cm. first bird, add 3600sq.cm. per extra bird

CAGES*: minimum height 34cm; 1600 sq.cm. first bird, add 800 sq.cm. per extra bird

PLANTS: destructive to plants in the aviary. Beware of toxic plants

MIXING: Aggressive to other species.
