The Society

The Avicultural Society of Australia Inc. is one of the oldest Avicultural Societies in Australia, having been formed in 1940. It currently has a membership in excess of 1000 and welcomes membership applications from those persons interested in birds their welfare and care, both in captivity and the wild. The Society caters for all Australian and exotic birds.

Monthly Meetings

The Society holds it’s monthly meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 8.00pm, with the exception of December when it is the second Wednesday, in The Pines Learning Centre 520 Blackburn Rd East Doncaster. Melways Reference 34 D5 Enter via the entrance on the South Side of the building. Service items are available for sale at meetings. Most meetings feature guest speakers who address members on a range of bird related topics. Attendance at the meetings is approximately 50 with overseas members and visitors most welcome.

Branches

The Society has 11 Branches throughout country Victoria. Members and visitors are always welcome at Branch meetings. Go to the Branch page for locations and meeting details.

Member Services

Avicultural products can be purchased from the Society’s Services Steward at competitive prices. Many of these products are not available from your local Pet Shop. Some examples of the products held in stock include:
Leg rings in a large range of sizes to suit all bird species.
Thermostats for Hospital cages.
Vitamin and mineral products.
Plans to construct hospital cages and seed winnowers.
Egg Candler
Ketch All Mouse Traps
Specialized Foods for Lorikeets and Softbills

These items are normally available at Society meetings and limited stocks can also be obtained from some of our Society Branches.

Aviary Visits

Both the Society and its Branches often organize Aviary Visits to other members aviaries as well as Public Bird Parks which enables members to increase their avicultural knowledge.

Wanted To Sell / Wanted To Buy

Members are able to advertise free both birds for sale and exchange in our monthly journal Australian Aviculture. The sales and exchanges details also appear on our website.

Bird Expos

The Society and some of its Branches hold Annual Bird Expos which are open to members as well as the general public. There is a large range of birds and bird products for sale from members normally at much lower prices than commercial bird outlets. Sales tables can be booked through the Society or its Branches.

Australian Aviculture

The Society’s monthly journal Australian Aviculture is issued 12 times per year and posted to members. It is professionally printed and contains a wide variety of original articles on aviculture and features numerous colour photos.
