Branch News

At our October meeting the Goulburn Valley Branch celebrated its 40th Anniversary. A Power point presentation was put together highlighting the history of the branch. The only GV member that was at the original meeting was Bruce Trotter. We are fortunate to have Bruce who is into his 84th year, still attending club meetings.  He gave us his recollection of the inaugural meeting, including the fact that the host had actually planned to create a “Waterbirds of Australia” club.  Bruce swiftly tossed that idea out the door.

The above photo consists off (left to right) Frank Johnston – dedicated 36 years on the committee and over 40 years as an ASA member, Judy Johnston – dedicated 26 years on the committee and Bruce Trotter – active contributing member undertaking numerous tasks for the branch and has been an ASA member for 53 years, cutting the anniversary cake. We look forward to reaching our 50th.

From Mark Reynolds of the Goulburn Valley Branch:

At our April meeting we had guest speaker Dr. Madeleine, B.Sc D.V.M from the Shepparton Veterinary Clinic, Maddi was supported by Katrina Kim-Worley who is the Practise Manager.

Growing up in Adelaide, Maddi moved to Melbourne when she was still quite young. She has a love and fascination of all animals including exotic birds, rabbits, rats, reptiles and ferrets.   Dr Maddi has also treated wombats.

She enjoys kayaking and bushwalking and especially wildlife watching! Madeleine has two friendly budgies and a cute little Westie Cross dog.

Dr Maddi spoke about her background in Veterinary science and growing up with a love of animals. She also spoke of the services available at Shepp Vet Clinic and the contacts she has within Australia and abroad which she finds comes in handy when she needs some assistance. It is fantastic for the area to have an Avian Vet locally that we can call on when required.

I was pleased to see that Dr Maddi and Kat were the last to leave as they stayed around for supper and were quizzed by members in attendance.

If you have any questions or need some advice please consider giving the Shepparton Veterinary Clinic a call on 0358213188, you may even see David Jacotine’s son working his magic.

Swan Hill Branches Annual Bird Expo
By Keith Ward, Swan Hill, Vic.

Our 31st Bird Expo proved another flying success last Sunday, largely due to very wide buyer and seller support.
The usual hard-working local “Avicultural Society branch” members, were also well pleased with the continuing success of their sale.
They wish to thank breeders for their continuing support, especially those needing to travel long distances to make it.
